SDS Section 13 (Tab "13 Disposal")
Quick start
In this section/tab you identify suitable waste management techniques for product and product container disposal.
· US-OSHA and Health Canada do not require completion of the disposal section. However, the EU/EEA, GB, and Mexico do require completion, and disposal information may be required in other jurisdictions. The inclusion of product disposal information on the SDS is highly recommended, to ensure that it is performed in an environmentally responsible manner.
· Information here concerning personal protective equipment for waste handlers should be consistent with recommendations on Tabs "8.1 Exposure-protection" and "8.2 Exposure-protection". (You can refer to Section 8 instead of repeating the same information here.)
· For EU/EEA jurisdictions, the disposal recommendations should be consistent with identified uses and exposure scenarios in the Chemical Safety Report (where this report is mandated).
· For general guidance, refer to the Managing help box, below.
Entry areas
Disposal of the product
Describe recommended practices for product disposal, including appropriate disposal containers. Identify special precautions for disposal in landfills and/or for incineration. Recommendations must conform to applicable laws and regulations for the jurisdiction(s) where the product is being distributed and/or used.
Describe potential hazards arising from disposal, and recommend special precautions that may be required to ensure safe handling. Identify any disposal practices that are known to be unsuitable.
Identify physical and/or chemical properties of the product that could affect waste disposal options. Identify any additional hazards that may result from product use and/or contamination.
Indicate whether the product is likely to be considered hazardous waste under applicable rules/regulations where the product is being distributed and used. For example, in the US the product may meets hazard classifications under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), OSHA, or Department of Transportation (DOT) criteria.
A useful resource for disposal information is PubChem, accessible as a web link in the Research menu, at the bottom of the form. On the PubChem web site, Section 11.4.4 for a listed chemical is "Disposal Methods".

Disposal of contaminated packaging
Identify appropriate disposal techniques for packaging containing product residues. Identify means of handling contaminated packaging that are known to be unsuitable.
Waste treatment
Indicate whether and (if so) how the product can be treated as a waste material.
Sewage disposal
Indicate whether and under what conditions the product can be released into sewage treatment systems. Generally, disposal into sewer systems should be discouraged.
Other disposal recommendations
Indicate whether other means of disposal are feasible for the product.
